Frequently Asked Question – Senior Class

  1. Where is Graduation?

Graduation will be held at the VCU Siegel Center; 1200 W. Broad Street, Richmond

  2. When is Graduation?

Graduation will be held on June 15, 2018 at 7pm.

  3. What do I wear to Graduation?

Ladies – you are encouraged to wear white under your white gown, as well as dress shoes. Consider that you will be walking up and down a long flight of stairs when making your shoe selection.

Gentlemen – you are encouraged to wear dress slacks, a collared shirt, a tie, and dress shoes. Dark colored slacks and a light colored shirt look best with the blue gown.

Absolutely no writing or artwork is allowed on your cap!

Please note for safety reasons no flip-flops, sneakers, or “beach type” shoes are to be worn by any graduating senior. No shorts are allowed. Anyone who does not dress appropriately will not participate in the ceremony.

  4. When do I arrive at Graduation?

Seniors are asked to arrive at the Siegel Center at 6pm. Doors will also be opened at this time for parents to enter.

  5. What can I bring to Graduation?

The best answer to this question is your cap, gown and tassel. You will not be allowed to bring any items, including your cell phone, on the floor with you during the ceremony. If you bring your cell phone, it will be collected when you enter and placed in a bag with your name on it. It will be returned to you when you receive your diploma. All other personal items will be left in the auxiliary gym where you get ready. VCU also does not allow balloons, confetti, or wrapped packages to be brought into the Siegel Center.

  6. When do I get my diploma?

Diplomas are not handed out during the graduation ceremony. After the ceremony, you will need to pick up your diploma from the School Counseling staff, which will be set up in the auxiliary gym where you lined up before the ceremony. If you misbehave during the ceremony, your diploma may be withheld by the administration.

  7. May I decorate my cap?

No. This is a formal ceremony and proper decorum will be maintained. Save cap decorating for your college graduation.

  8. When and where is Graduation practice?

Graduation practice will be held in the NKHS Auditorium on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 8am until we get it right! (usually by 10am). GRADUATION PRACTICE IS MANDATORY! IF YOU DO NOT ATTEND, YOU MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN GRADUATION!

*In order to participate in graduation practice, you must have completed your senior checklist. The checklist will be available on May 24 and must be returned by June 8.

  9. When are senior exams?

Senior Exams will be given June 7 and 8, 2018.

  10. When can I pick up my Graduation tickets?

Graduation tickets and parking passes will be distributed by Mrs. Ritter during your lunch period May 22, 24, 29, and 31 and again on June 5, 7, 8 and 14.

  11. How many tickets can I get for Graduation?

15 tickets will be distributed to each senior.

  12. What about parking at Graduation?

It is highly recommended that you and your guests park in the parking deck across from the Siegel Center. The street is blocked off, so street parking is extremely limited. Parking passes are given to us by the Siegel Center, and the price is $7. These passes may be purchased when picking up your entrance tickets.

  13. When will I receive my cap and gown and other graduation items?

Our Jostens Representative was here April 22 and 23 to deliver graduation orders. If you did not pick up your order at that time, you may pick it up on May 22, when our Jostens representative returns. After this date, you will have to see Mrs. Ritter to receive your order. YOU MUST PAY YOUR BALANCE IN FULL BEFORE YOU WILL BE GIVEN YOUR ORDER.

  14. Who qualifies as an Honor Graduate?

Students who have earned a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA will be designated as Honor Graduates.

  15. When will I receive my gold cord and tassel in recognition of being an Honor Graduate?

Honor Graduate regalia will be distributed at Graduation practice.

  16. Who will I walk with at Graduation?

You will learn that at Graduation practice – so be there!
